Leena Scholten opened the Granary on May 6th, 1988. She was born and raised in Helsinki, Finland. Her mother cooked and baked from scratch, not unusual for the time and place, and summers were spent on a remote subsistence farm belonging to a great aunt.
From these beginnings and eventually travelling and cooking together with her husband Peter, Leena developed an interest in and a love of REAL food.
In 1988, the closing of the local natural food store inspired her to open her own. The product mix has evolved over time, but always within specific guidelines.
